Kody Zimmermann is a Canadian writer-director working in psychological horror, satire, and elevated genre storytelling. A lifelong devotee of comic books, genre fiction, and sci-fi cinema, Zimmermann broke out with his short film The Familiar, which screened at over 50 festivals worldwide and won Best Short Film at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, the world’s oldest and most prestigious genre festival. The film also received a Director’s Guild of Canada nomination for Best Short Film and was later featured on the award-winning Omeleto platform, where it was recognized as one of their Best Shorts of 2022.

His early short films include Insomnia, Chop, and Lock, the latter of which is currently touring Europe under the MotelX film festival label. His feature screenplay, The House on Widow’s Walk, was a semi-finalist in the Slamdance Horror Screenwriting Competition.

Zimmermann has spent years embedded in Vancouver’s film industry, shadowing filmmakers including Lawrence Kasdan, Roger Spottiswoode, Dan Petrie Jr., and editor Steve Mirkovich. During production of The 6th Day, he was invited to produce and direct a segment featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He is currently in post-production on The Hollow Girl, a psychological supernatural short that serves as a proof of concept for his feature, The Hollow Season, while developing a slate of character-driven horror films exploring identity, fractured reality, and the cost of escaping institutional control.
